GK: It's Saturday in San Francisco, the day to go shopping down on the Embarcadero (FERRY HORN), at the farmers market next to the Ferry Building ---- look out for that bicyclist (BICYCLE PASSING, HORN) ---- this is where the commuters take the ferry over to Marin (FERRY HORN) but on a Saturday it's where you find the freshest local produce available ----- (FN TOURIST: Oh, excuse me ---- would you mind taking a picture of me and the family with the Bay Bridge? Thanks so much. Just press the little button on top there. ---- No, the little red button. ---- (VOICE OFF) No? It's not the red button? Oh. Right. The blue button. There. (CLICK OF LENS) Thanks. Really appreciate it.) (TRAFFIC HIGH UP) The Bay Bridge is up there which just got a new Eastern span at a cost of $6.5 billion. And there's a sightseeing helicopter going by (CHOPPER), But it's the day to visit the farmer's market and inside you'll find fresh peaches, olives, vine ripened tomatoes, and honey from the local hives just south of Market Street. (FN TOURIST: I'm sorry, the flash didn't go off. Could you try again? ----- it's the blue button. Thanks so much. CLICK OF LENS)
There are raw oysters from Tomales Bay, (SFX SHUCKING OYSTER) and chorizo in clabbered cottage cheese (SPLORT), organic mushrooms, and a mushroom empanada, and a MUFFULETTA WITH SHAVED FENNEL WATERCRESS AND PECORINO sandwich (SFX BIG CHOMP AND CHEW AND MURMUR OF PLEASURE)
And how about chocolate lavender gelato (SCOOP, SPLORT) ---- two scoops, please (ANOTHER SCOOP SPLORT) , and a green tea chai latte (POURING). And now it's time to get on the streetcar, the F-line up Market street (RUMBLING, CLANKING, DINGING BELL, AIR BRAKES) And you go past the public library, the Asian Art museum, the civic center, the opera house, the homeless shelters, the soup kitchens, the methadone clinics, the arts and crafts stores, the quirky boutiques, into the Castro neighborhood and the Castro Theatre, with an organ concert before every show and it's two sing-along movies, Sound of Music and Beauty and the Beast ---- you skip those for now and up Valencia Street to Dolores Park with a glorious view of the San Francisco skyline and the Bi-rite Creamery with balsamic strawberry cones and brown sugar butter pecan and ginger caramel swirl ice cream.
There's a game of ultimate Frisbee (FN: GO LONG.....RUNNING FEET, DOG BARKS) and lots of dogs around. Because the Dog-owners Political Action Committee is meeting today under the trees--- (SS: SO PLEASE SIGN UP FOR A SHIFT AT THE PHONEBANK, AND LET YOUR REPRESENTATIVES KNOW THAT THE OFF-LEASH RESTRICTIONS IN GOLDEN GATE RECREATIONAL AREA ARE NOT JUST BAD FOR OUR DOGS, THEY'RE BAD FOR THE FREEDOM OF OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY.
